
George Vasquez Rios
Dr. George Vasquez Rios is a Nephrology fellow in the clinician-scientist track at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He pursued a pre-doctoral research fellowship in parasitic diseases in the Alexander Von Humboldt Tropical Medicine Institute in Lima, Peru. He obtained his medical degree at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, where he developed a strong interest in the AKI – CKD conundrum. After relocating to the USA, George served as a post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. He developed expertise in conducting clinical studies on AKI, critical therapies, and dialysis outcomes. During his Internal Medicine training at Saint Louis University School of Medicine, he was awarded the highly competitive ASN Innovations in Kidney Education 2018. Dr. Vasquez Rios’ research has been extensively published in reputed scientific journals and recognized in national and international conferences. He is interested in post-AKI subclinical kidney disease and CKD subphenotypes discovery based upon kidney-related biomarkers and bioinformatic techniques. He is training under the mentorship of Drs. Steven Coca, Girish N Nadkarni, and Lili Chan to become a clinical and translational researcher in AKI.
